Our ‘Moving Together Dance’ Students Visit The Curve Theatre

Year 7 students who attend the after-school club, Moving Together Dance (MTD) were wowed by the opportunity to experience a live, professional dance performance in a world-class theatre recently.

The group visited the Curve Theatre in Leicester to see an evening performance of The Four Seasons performed by The James Wilton Dance Company. The visit is part of the College’s commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum and to develop students’ cultural capital.

Shannon Coote and Billy Keen from MTD joined NCL students as some of them are working towards their Arts Award Bronze as part of their after-school commitments at NCL. Part B of the award requires students to explore the arts as an audience member.

Ash, year 7 student comments,“I loved the whole show … it was amazing, I’d love to dance like that.”

The performance featured a fusion of capoeira, acrobatics, martial arts and classical dance to create a work which related to each of the four seasons. This was an opportunity for the students to experience abstract dance but also enjoy the visual feast of stunning stage, costume and lighting design.

Megan, Year 7 enjoyed seeing a different range of dance. “I enjoyed the actual dance because it isn’t a style I usually watch and it was interesting.”

It will be interesting to see how the opportunity to see dance and theatre of this calibre inspires and impacts on the students’ performance at their after school club where they are busy preparing for the Moving Together Showcase in July.
