National Strikes by NEU members

Members of the National Education Union (NEU), the biggest education trade union representing teachers, have voted to take industrial action nationally or in the East Midlands on 1st February 2023; 1st March; 15th March and 16th March.

These strikes will potentially result in class or whole school closures across the country, affecting 23,000 schools, including New College Leicester. This dispute is a national dispute, therefore there is nothing staff at New College Leicester are able to do to change its course.

The first NEU strike is due to take place on Wednesday 1st February (next week).   As you know, the decision to close the school or send students home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, we will have no choice but to take appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students.

Therefore, unless the strike action is called off nationally, New College Leicester will be closed to students on Wednesday 1st February for one day only.

Our staff will review the following dates and make decisions, based on the information we have, nearer the time. We are aware that school closures inconvenience parents and carers. We have therefore written to you directly to give advance notice.

As always, we will continue to keep you informed as soon as we have any new information.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
