Key Stage 3

The key stage 3 curriculum is linked closely with the National Curriculum and allows all learners to explore an exciting range of instrumentation and diverse musical styles and cultures. It encourages creativity whilst always developing personal skills and strengths such as team work, confidence, problem solving, independence and resilience. Every student has the opportunity to perform in the school Christmas concert in KS3 and to take part in specific performance trips.

By the end of the three-year key stage, students will be well prepared for further study through acquiring:

  • Performance, composition, listening and apprising skills
  • The ability to understand and use correctly music terminology
  • The knowledge, appreciation and understanding of a breadth of music styles and genres
  • The ability to perform an individual piece of music as an ensemble

Students have the opportunity to have free instrumental lessons and are encouraged to take part in musically diverse enrichment programme.
