Hitting the right note at New College Leicester!

Legacies can provide a lasting impression on people and, in some cases, where there is no direct link. David Robinson was a musician with a passion for education, supporting and nurturing younger talent, and the local music scene in his home town of Scarborough. His Nephew, Tom Cutforth (pictured above), a teacher of business studies at New College Leicester, has followed the family philosophy of education. Sadly David Robinson passed away in August 2019. To ensure a lasting memory, his fellow musicians in Scarborough held a benefit concert to raise funds which were kindly donated in David’s honour to New College Leicester. Francis Matthews, Head of Performing Arts at New College Leicester commented ‘Through David’s legacy, the school has purchased some new equipment and a lovely piano which will have a tremendous benefit to the exam classes at the school and has allowed learners to practice and perform thereby enhancing their experience. We are extremely appreciative to the family for their very generous donation’.

David’s nephew, Tom Cutforth, said “My Uncle always encouraged others to develop their own musical talent from his home studio and being able to continue to give back in a way that will develop young musical talent for years is something that he would have been proud of. It’s a perfect way to continue his legacy”.
