Qualification

The students at New College Leicester will study the Edexcel GCSE History course.

An introduction to the course

This qualification will engage students with a broad and diverse study of the history of Britain and the wider world and give them skills that will support progression to further study of history and a wide range of other subjects.

What the course involves

The course will comprise of the following topics:

  • British medicine from 1250- present (30%).
  • Anglo Saxon and Norman England 1060-88 (20%).
  • Superpower relations and the Cold War 1941-91 (20%).
  • Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-1939 (30%).

How the course is assessed

The course will be assessed through 3 exams which are sat at the end of year 11 covering the topics shown below:

Paper 1 – British Medicine from 1250 to the present day

Paper 2 – Anglo-Saxon and Norman England and Superpower relations and the Cold War.

Paper 3 – Weimar and Nazi Germany

Career Opportunities

Skills learned in History are highly transferrable and the course offers an ideal foundation for those wishing to    pursue careers in law, journalism, social work, medicine, politics or the civil service.

Post-16 opportunities

This subject leads into History at A Level and lends itself well to A levels in Law, Politics and International Relations.

Required resources/equipment for the course

It is essential that you have an enthusiasm and passion for dance and an interest in performing, as this is an important aspect of the course. Prior dance experience is advantageous but not essential. Unless you wish to do so you will not be required to perform a solo as part of this course.

Revision

GCSE students are encouraged to actively revise independently at home.  This will also make up a part of their homework during year 10 and 11.

Students can purchase the following recommended revision guides through the school at a discounted price of £2.70 each.
