The Drama Department is part of Performing Arts which is within the Expressive Arts Faculty making for a very interesting and exciting curriculum. The Drama Department offers students a wide variety of activities within specialist facilities. These include a fully equipped Drama Studio and a state of the art Theatre.
All students study Drama at Key Stage 3, Year 7 are taught in rotation with Dance and receive one hour of drama a week every other half term. Year 8 study drama one hour a week.
In Year 9 students are given the option to select Drama in their pathway options, students who opt for drama have 4 hours across a two-week timetable.
In Year 10 and 11 students are currently studying the Level 2 BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts and have 5 hours across a two-week timetable.
All year groups are taught mixed ability and work is differentiated to meet the needs of individual students.
In addition to the curriculum time at New College Leicester, we also offer an extra-curricular program. We have stretch and challenge opportunities which involve students being actively involved in whole school productions as well as regular opportunities for students to see professional performances through a variety of trips.
