Good Progress for All

Mr Newmark

Welcome to the Humanities Faculty at New College Leicester.

Humanities encompasses the departments of History, Geography, Religious Education and Citizenship. Please click on a subject for more detailed information.

Key Stage 3

Most students study separate History, Geography and Religious Education lessons with Citizenship mapped through carefully identified topics. Students are taught by subject specialists wherever possible. This develops subject specific skills which are vital for those students choosing to continue their studies into Key Stage 4.

Key Stage 4

The Faculty offers OCR History (Year 11) and Edexcel History (Year 9 and 10), OCR Geography and AQA Religious Education at GCSE. While the three subjects have important differences there are many similarities too; all encourage curiosity about the world and, in different ways, help answer some of the most important of life’s questions.

Key Stage 5

In Post 16 students can study Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate/Diploma in Public Services (Syllabus Number 601/3258/9). The aim of this qualification is to:

  • Inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the public services sector
  • Give learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the public services sector
  • Support progression into specialised Level 3 qualifications in public services, or progression into an Apprenticeship
  • Give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of job roles
